Pinewood Derby a Blast!

The annual Pinewood Derby was held today at EK School in O’Fallon. Just over 40 boys raced their cars.  Several siblings also tested their car building skills at the end of the event.

Overall Winners were:

1st Place – Brandon Rust (Tigers)
2nd Place – Brent Peate (Wolves)
3rd Place – Trey Schaefer (Bears)

Congratulations to all the boys who participated.  Fun was had by all.

Blue and Gold Banquet Information

The Blue and Gold Banquet is our yearly time to recognize our second year Webelos as they transition into Boy Scouting.  It is also a great time for the whole Pack to get together, eat great food, and have some fun.  The event will be on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 6pm-8pm at EK Elementary.

Our chairperson this year is Amy Sayler and she is looking for parents to assist her with the planning.  This is a great opportunity to participate in the Pack with a great event.  You can contact Amy at aasayler@yahoo.com or 618-795-3540.

We have reduced the cost of the event this year and tickets are only $10 and cover the whole family.  Den leaders have been given tickets for the event and they should be purchased through your Den.

The theme this year is Mayan Survivor and all tables should follow this theme.  There is also a Cake decorating contest for the Dads and Lads.  All the details can be found on the Blue and Gold flyer.

Protestant God & Country Courses Offered

The Lewis & Clark Council is offering all four levels of the God and Country Program. The classes are open to all Protestant faiths. They are for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, or any student wishing to invest the time in the program. Classes will be at the First United Methodist Church, on Highway 50 across from the O’Fallon High School.

Here is the information pertaining to our boys:

GOD and Me
1st through 3rd Grades – Five weeks
(Tigers, Wolves & Bears)

Tuesday nights; 6:00-7:00 p.m. in room 113
February 7, 14, 21, 28 and March 6
Books – $3.50 – should be paid at first class
Awards Boys $7.50 – should be paid by last class

GOD and Family
4th and 5th Grades – Eight weeks
(Webelos)

Monday nights; 7:30-8:30 p.m. in room 113
February 6, 13, 27 and March 5, 12, 19, 26 and April 2.
Books – $3.50 – should be paid at first class
Awards Boys $8.50 – should be paid by last class

This is a great opportunity for boys from the Protestant faiths to complete this award.  Recipients are also able to wear the award on their uniform.  It was also be awesome to have a group from Pack 35 commit to take these classes.  For additional questions, please contact the individuals on the flyer.

Upcoming Pack 35 Events

There are several great events coming up in the next couple of months.

Pinewood Derby – January 21

Our boys are starting to build their Pinewood Derby cars.  This is always one of the highlights of the year and a lot of fun for everyone.

Check-In: Friday, January 20 – 6pm – 8pm
Race Day: Saturday, January 21 – 9am – 12 Noon

A few leaders have opened up their resources to our boys to complete their cars.  Some of the Dens will be working on their cars during the regular meetings.  Get with your Den Leader and see when this going on.  Contact the Pack with questions at ofallonpack35@gmail.com.

Klondike Derby – February 3-5

February 3-5 – Camp Joy, Carlyle, IL
Price – $6 per person

This is a Winter Camping and Outdoor Skills competition. Each competing patrol should have a Klondike sled that uses Scout power to pull it. Competition stations will be named after towns on the Iditarod Trail race map for 2006. Each station will test and score patrols on their team work, Scouting knowledge, and their problem solving ability.  Other activities include movie and popcorn night on friday night and tons of other fun stuff.

Camp for one day or both days.  Can’t camp?  Just plan to come out for the day.  This is a family camp and all family members are welcome to come out and camp.  If you are camping, let us know by Monday, January 23 at 5pm.  Please direct any questions to Klondike Derby Chairperson, Rob Smith at EagleScoutRob@gmail.com or 530-8298.
